“If energy can neigher be created nor destryod, then where did the energy required for the big bang? Which initiated the universe come from?”
This question is not merely a matter of science; it also touches upon philosophy and human curiosity.
When we learn the fundamental law of physics in school that “Energy can neigher be created nor destroyed, but only transformed from one from to another” a question naturally arises : if there was nothing before the big bang , where did such immense energy suddenly come from?
Science deos not yet have a complete answer to this question. However modern physics offers certain possibilities that attempt to understand this mistery.
What exactly does the law of conversation of energy state ?
The Physics of law of Conversation of Energy State that :
In a closed System, the total energy never increases or descreases; it merely changes form.
In all these instances, energy does not vanish; it simply changes it form.
This law applies within the universe we inhabit. but does it also apply to the very moment the universe began ?
Was the big bang really an explosion?
Many people believe that the Big Bang was simply a massive explosion occuring in empty space.
But this undestaning is incorrect.
The Big Bang does not mean that an explosion took place in some empty space.
In fact,
Space, time, matter , and energy – all of these began with the Big Bang.
So, the question :
“Where did the Big Bang happen ?”
The answer is :
Everywhere.
Because space itself began to expand.
If time began with the Big Bang, What does the word “Before” mean ?
This is where our mind stuggle.
We tend to think of every event as occuring withing time.
What comes before birth ?
What comes after death ?
What comes before the rain?
But if time itself began with Big Bang, then the question “What was there before the Big Bang?” might well be meaningless.
It is like asking :
Where is there is point further north that North Pole?
Since the north pole is the ultimate point, there is no “North” beyond it.
Similarly, the very concept of “”Before” as in “Before the beginning of time”, might not even exist.
So then, Where did the energy come from?
Now, let us come to the most important question.
Science currently has many possibilities.
Possibility 1 : the total energy of the universe might be zero.
This is a most interesting idea.
We generally think that since the universe contains countless starts, galaxies , and matters, there must be a vast amount of energy.
However, physicists say that this might not be the case.
Two types of energy are considered to exist in the universe.
1. Positive energy
2. Negative Gravitational Energy.
Gravity contributes negatively to the total energy of the universe.
If the two are combined, it is possible that
Positive Energy + Negative Gravity = 0
This implies that the total energy of the universe could be zero.
If this is true , the law of conservation of energy is not violated.
Bank account example :
Suppose you have 1,000 in your account.
But you have also debt of 1,000
So what is the net worth,
0
Similarly,
There is a vast amount of energy in the universe.
But there could also be an equal amount of negative gravitational energy.
Thus, the total sum becomes zero.
Possibility 2 : Quantum Vaccum
Many people think of “Zero” as completly empty space.
But the quantum physics suggests something different.
A quantum vaccum is not completely empty.
Tiny quantum fluctuations are constantly occurring withing it.
Virtual particals are continuosly created and vanish in an instant.
This process takes place over a very short period of time.
Some scientists belives that the entire universe might have originated from very specific quantum event.
This remain just theory.
Possibility 3 : Inflation
In an incredibly tiny fraction of the first moment after Big Bang, the universe expanded extrempluy rapidly.
This event is know as Cosmic Inflation.
During this time, a special type of energy caused the entire expanse of the space to expand quickly.
But the question arises again :
Where did the energy come from ?
A complete answer to this question has not yet been found.
Possibility 4 : Quantum Tunneling
Phenomina occur in quantum mechanics that differ from our everyday experience.
According to some models, the universe may have come into existence through tunneling.
This means the universe emerged under quantum laws without any conventional “cause.”
This idea is still under research.
Possibility 5 : Multiverse
Some scientists believes that our universe is not the only one.
Countless universe might exist.
This is known as multiverse.
If so, our universe could potentialy be part of some other quantum process.
However, these is currently no direct evidence to support this idea.
The greatest mystery isn’t that the universe exists,it’s why the laws governing it allow anything to exist at all.
